Introduction

The North East and Cumbria Learning Disability Network hosts the Macmillan Cancer Learning Disability Project. The project has completed four years as a Macmillan funded project (2016-2020).

This report looks at achievements over the past four years, highlighting work that can be replicated or adapted to enable more people with a learning disability to get access to good quality cancer services and care.

The Macmillan Cancer Learning Disability Project has worked to improve cancer services and experiences for people with a learning disability, their families and carers. It is integrated into the work of the North East and Cumbria Learning Disability Network and works closely with the Northern Cancer Alliance.

The project team was made up of; full-time project manager and part-time (one session a week) clinical lead. Supported by a steering group and many project partners.

Aims of the project

Improving cancer services and experiences for people with a learning disability, their families and carers along the whole cancer pathway.
